Stephen started in the plumbing trade in 1971 as a helper, digging ditches and picking at rock so new sewer lines could reach the right depth. Six months later he plumbed a one-bath house alone, passed inspection, and got a truck and a helper of his own. He learned the trade in Southern California, where the codes were strictly enforced, plumbing 52 houses a year for one builder and custom two-story homes on the side.
Adam has worked with his dad since 2001 and has done more and more of the work with every year. The two of them run Stephen Tope Plumbing together today: punctual and friendly service for a reasonable price, done the way they would do it in their own house. As Stephen puts it, he treats people fair and always gets a good night's sleep, because he knows he does good, honest work.
